The administration has had its hands full with the financial crisis, health care, Guantánamo Bay and other pressing matters. In times like these, issues like repealing the marriage act can seem like a distraction — or a political liability. But busy calendars and political expediency are no excuse for making one group of Americans wait any longer for equal rights.
Maybe this public outcry will finally garner some change for a social group that just desperately wants to be treated as equals. Also, I realize it's still early in President Obama's term as Grand Poobah in Chief, but I think it's high time he be held accountable for the campaign promises he's shirking off. I want to believe this man will do great things for our country, but I also want my basic, intrinsic rights. My civil liberties.
