Right now you can get all kinds of items with the slogan "Pray for Obama Psalm 109:8." Teddy bears, BBQ aprons, mugs...you can get this phrase on all of them. So...what's Psalm 109:8? Good question!
Let his days be few; and let another take his office.
Oh yes...and let's not stop there! Take a look at what the following verses - aka the verse immediately following that one - have to say!
Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.
Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.
Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labor.
Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favor his fatherless children.
Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.
Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.
Let them be before the LORD continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.
Now, isn't that just a lovely sentiment? Yes, let's pray for Obama!
PEOPLE! WAKE UP!!! Sure, the majority of people that receive the message from the onslaught of media attention about this won't actually do anything about it, but it just takes one unhinged individual to believe they're doing God's work to cause great harm. I mean, the aforementioned man's message of watering the tree of liberty was the same one worn by a man named Timothy McVeigh when he blew up the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, OK. All sorts of conservative talking heads have railed against George Tiller, saying in no uncertain terms that things would be better without him and calling him "Tiller the Baby Killer." Then, some unhinged idiot killed him in cold blood. So, when conservative media outlets online and on television talk about praying for Obama using Psalm 109:8-9, I hope that when some idiot takes it upon themselves to 'do God's work," that we'll remember everybody who perpetuated this idea and hold them to some sort of accountability.
They're culpable. They're the ones filling the heads of Americans with dangerous tripe, and it just takes one McVeigh, one Scott Roeder to try to put a bullet through our beloved President. This is the difference between Christianity, most Christians, and religious extremists.
Love and Lyte,
