Shout Out: New World Witchery

Apologies go out to Cory and Lane, the hosts of the fantastic, amazing, insightful, truly riotous podcast New World Witchery. I have been meaning to give them a shout out on the podcast and keep forgetting. The show deals specifically with the magic and folk traditions of the New World, that is, the Americas over the past couple hundred years. Voodoo, Hoodoo, Granny Magic, Appalachian folk magic, superstitions and prognostication, etc.

Their advice is simple, practical, and has absolutely no qualms about discussing curses, hexes, and other unmentionable things. (Shout Out Dorothy Morrison: Utterly Wicked: Curses, Hexes & Other Unsavory Notions!) They don't just tell you about hypothetical spells, remedies, tricks, and conjures; they actually describe how to do them and give personal anecdotes of their successes and failures.

This show preaches what I have been saying for a long time: magic is simple. Magic is earthy and rich and real and thick like maple syrup on a winter morning. Magic doesn't require high ceremony to be effective.

Cory and Lane have put out a fabulous podcast full of needed information that is an asset, whether you've been practicing for 30 years or 30 days. We're all so inundated with pseudo-European spirituality and belief that we overlook the magic that is right underneath our native feet, the lore and beliefs used in our own backyards. So, if you're wanting to learn about an area of the craft that is seldom mentioned in the New Age section, do your ears a favor and subscribe to New World Witchery - the Search for American Traditional Witchcraft.
