Yesterday, I found out via my podkin Mojo from the Wigglian Way podcast that David Grega died. You may not know David, but you've definitely been influenced by him. The fact that you're reading this blog is evidence that you've been influenced by David.
David was a founding member of the Pagan Centered Podcast and was possibly the biggest reason why the Proud Pagan Podcasters organization existed and flourished the way it did. He had a passion for the pagan community, and a passion for bringing us into the new millennium.
Also, it should be noted, David was a lot like me in the sense that he said what he felt, didn't hold his tongue, and let the chips fall where they may. More often than not, this led to disagreements with folks - myself included. We didn't always see eye to eye, and just because someone passes doesn't mean you white wash over reality. However...
I came to respect David immensely this past year. And, no, it's not just because he's recently had quite a number of wonderful things to say about me, my blog, my podcast, or Project Pagan Enough. It's because, my own ego aside, I grew up a little bit and was able to look back on the things David has accomplished for the community and it made me realize how lucky I am to have had him in the world. Were we friends or cohorts? No. Would I be a podcaster or blogger without him having paved part of the way first? Who knows. Maybe not.
What I do know is this... Losing him is a major loss for our community. The ripples of the networks and organizations he's created will be felt throughout our community - I believe - forever. Whether you agreed with everything he said or not, his passion, love, and joy was a force in the modern Pagan world. He will be sorely missed, and I hope you'll all take a moment to light a candle, say a prayer, or otherwise meditate on this loss.
I believe there are funds being set up for his mother's travel to his memorial among other things. Keep watch on Twitter (@IncitingARiot) or Facebook for news as I receive it.
Love and Lyte,
