I don't follow many peoples teachings, but they helped form the cloth that I'm a tiny thread of. I think it's important to learn about the past, pagan history, general history, people who created a recognized voice for a minority, people who invented things we use today without thinking, different philosophers even if we don't agree, etc. It's all part of not getting too much in my own head and staying connected to the broadness of humanity back and forward in time and throughout the whole planet. I don't want to be ignorant of others, and I want to appreciate what I have and where I'm at more. I also think exposure to diversity is good in itself, because even if I don't believe the same things I can empathize and at the very least accept other views as good for the people they belong to (excluding when they hurt others-in which case I can also understand and be more aware of those and maybe how to influence them otherwise in some cases). Overall I guess my rambling point is, we shouldn't close off from others. You can read a book and not agree, and still gain some understanding in the process.Elizabethhttp://exploratorydruid.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.com
